Arthur Ashe is moving to its new permanent campus!

Arthur Ashe Charter School is moving from its temporary Uptown location to its permanent, newly constructed building on the Bienville Elementary site in the Oak Park Neighborhood of Gentilly in New Orleans for the 2012-2013 school year.

Nearly two full city blocks of New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD)-operated public space surround the school building, creating many opportunities for Ashe students and the surrounding community.  FirstLine Schools was able to work closely with the RSD and the architects to ensure that the campus was designed to enhance the rigorous and engaging teaching and learning styles that make Ashe so great!

Along with a state-of-the-art learning facility, our goal is to transform the existing park and facilities into an accessible, intergenerational public park with an Edible Schoolyard Garden that provides recreational and gardening opportunities for Ashe students, their families and the Gentilly community at-large.  Phase One of this project, beginning in the spring of 2012, will include the initial build out of the Edible Schoolyard Gardens and a new playground.  We are excited that the current grounds include a t-ball field and tennis court.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:  MARCH 2012

FirstLine is thrilled to work with the RSD on the construction completion of the new Arthur Ashe @ Bienville School campus!  Major construction is underway, and FirstLine expects to take possession of the building in the early summer.  Director of Facilities Aron Michalski has worked closesly with the RSD and their contractors to ensure that the building design and completion meet our exacting standards for inspirational environments, and construction is moving along nicely!  Check out the new entrance and our ENORMOUS gym-torium!
