Message from the Directors
August 2013Dear Families,
With great enthusiasm - we welcome our new families and returning families as we enter the 2013-2014 school year! We trust that each one of you has had a restful summer and is as excited as the Ashe Staff to get back to work on our mission to academically and socially prepare 100% of our students for college, careers, and a successful life. We are committed to providing your child with the quality education that he/she deserves. As we enter our second year in our new learning facility, we are pleased to inform you that we’ve been preparing more opportunities for Ashe students, their families and the Gentilly community at-large to get involved. From the Edible Schoolyard NOLA to the Personalized Learning Lab, our campus was designed to enhance learning through rigorous and engaging teaching, targeting various learning styles and fostering parental and community involvement - making Ashe a great place to learn! We are looking forward to an upbeat, positive school year.
Secondly, we are proud of the academic determination and success of our students - last year Ashe made an 11-point gain! We still, however, have a long way to go. We will continue to focus on making our classrooms academically rigorous and engaging for students. Our Personalized Learning Program was a success. Students’ exposure to academic support through technology added an additional strategy to how Ashe provides student academic support. In addition to Personalized Learning, teachers will provide small group instruction customized to the different skill levels of our students. We look forward to holding each child close as we work to ensure that every child is academically at or above grade level.
Lastly, we look forward to developing quality relationships with you and our students. Your input is invaluable! Due to parent input, we made school wide changes that still remain this year; therefore, we encourage parents to partner with us through volunteering, attending parent orientation, report card conferences, Parent Committee meetings, school plays, field trips, Family Food Night, Literacy or Math and Science Night or any other activities that will allow you to visit the school and be an active partner in your child’s education.
We look forward to working with you as we continue to have a school of high expectations, creating a culture that is positive, warm, and inspiring for everyone. Our school will be defined by our core values of A.C.E.S. – Achievement, Community, Excellence and Self. These values are principles that each member of the community (staff, scholars, parents and partners) live by and model daily - creating a respectful environment that is calm, orderly and foster quality learning. When we work together with high expectations for student achievement and conduct as our priority, students demonstrate greater success as positive, confident learners. Your positive attitude and ongoing involvement make a significant difference in building a better future for your children. As always, our doors are open!
Thank you for choosing Arthur Ashe Charter School and entrusting your children to us. The Ashe Staff is privileged to serve you and we look forward to a successful school year!
